New Koala Bag - Coming '08

Koala BagThe Koala Bag is a new spin on the you normal stuff sacks. This heavy duty bag is designed specifically as a food bag. While normal ultralight Silicone nylon stuff sacks are great for most stuff, they tend to easily abrade when stuffing food items with sharp corners.

The Koala Bag also supports a convenient oversize front pouch. This pouch is convenient for storing those small items that typically fall to the bottom of your food bag.

    Features:

    • Dry Bag Closure (non Velcro)
    • Rugged D-Loop for Bear Bag hanging
    • Large Capacity front pouch for easy access to utensils, spices, drink mixes, etc.
    • Heavy Duty Fabric for durability
    • 900 Cubic Inch Capacity
    • Weighs less than 2 ounces.

I'd be interested in buying this as well. I'm currently using the Ursalite sold on Backpackinglight.com but don't really trust it's durability and I am looking for a good alternative. The front pouch on the Koala bag is very clever and as you say would really help keep track of the little stuff that needs to go in the food bag but is difficult to pack or find with the rest of my food.

We've had a bit of a hiccup on the Koala Bag. Right now the production cost is to high to go ahead on production. I hope to have better numbers in the next couple of weeks. If we can get the cost down, we'll go ahead into production.

I'll update this forum as things progress.

    Thanks,

    Ron

Hey Ron - that looks great. I was definitely looking for a new food bag as the Ursack is a bit of an overkill for a hanging food bag.

Love the idea of a the front pouch for all those things like bars and drink mixes!

Have the loop for hanging makes this an essential item to have.

I am sure someone will want one in cuben fiber :) :) :)

At this time we have no plans for this product due to the high cost of production, which is unfortunate, because we both would have enjoyed adding this to our lineup.

Based on this idea I made a simular bag using a sealine storm sack and sewing on a mesh pocket. Then taped the inside of the bag where the stitches are.

Not quite as waterproof as original sealine bag but not bad.

Shame about the high production cost. I am sure yours would have been much lighter.
