    Second door on Refuge

    Hi Ron,

I'd really like to see an option offered to have a second door on the Refuge and Refuge X.  I don't mean a second door like the one that currently exists on one side of the Refuge, with a separate mesh panel that creates a small vestibule.  Rather, I think it'd be great to add a vertical zipper on the back wall, and have it meet up with a second zipper that runs half way along the seam where the mesh on the floor connects to the back wall.  That would create a second door and allow entry on both sides (at least in dry weather when there is not a concern about rain coming in), and it would do so without giving up interior space in exchange for another vestibule.  And it would only add the weight of a couple zippers.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I suspect it would be easier to just make a mirror image of the existing front side - vestibule, door and all, like in the Lunar Duo - rather than re-design something different. I'm guessing Ron has already investigated and discarded that idea, along with a few more none of us have thought about, before he settled on the final product design. Could we see that or something else in a future revision?....... possibly.

However, bear in mind the targeted market here. Ron seems to be aiming for the lightest two person tent and to that end (as stated in the product decription), "To achieve its phenomenal 27 ounce weight for a two person tent, we've stripped out everything not absolutely needed".

I can think of a few additions or changes I'd like to see in my Lunar Solo too, but it's not reasonable to expect SMD to become a custom shop.

Actually, the method I had in mind to add a second door is simply to add two zippers to the already existing wall.  That seems to me a lot less labor and material intensive than making a mirror image of the front side.  But, of course, I'll defer to Ron on that.

I think you should post here the additions and changes you'd like to see in your Lunar Solo.  After all, this is the "Wish List" portion of the forum, which is supposed to include "Discussion of what new products or what new features to add to existing products."  I'm not sure what this portion of the forum could be intended for, if not posts like mine, and your suggestions about your Lunar Solo.

    Chris,

It's not likely that I'll add a second door to the Refuge. I want to keep that shelter as streamlined as possible. However, sometime we may consider making a Cuben version of the Lunar Duo. However, any decision on that is still a long time off.

    Thanks,

    Ron
